Dallas Bathtub & Tile Surround Refinishing
Bathtub & Tile Surround Refinishing — One Seamless, Reinforced Surface
Bathtub and tile refinishing as a combination service gives you a uniform, factory-clean tub and tile surround that looks like it all came together on day one. Instead of a “new tub / old tile” mismatch, everything is refinished as one integrated surface — including the grout lines.
During this process the grout lines are reinforced, any missing grout is replaced, and once refinishing is complete that grout is sealed under the new surface. That means the grout will never grow mildew again when it is cleaned and maintained properly.
Deep Prep: Moisture Scavenger, Grout Repair & Etching
Before any coating is applied, the entire surface of the bathtub and tile surround is prepped with a system I call Moisture Scavenger. This step goes after any microscopic moisture that might be hiding in the grout lines or worn areas of the surface.
That trapped moisture is encapsulated and dried out so it can’t expand and cause problems later. Then the tub and tile are:
- Repaired – missing grout is replaced; loose areas are addressed;
- Caulked or re-grouted where needed to lock everything in place;
- Etched so the pores are opened up for a true mechanical bond.
The goal is simple: a super clean, super dry, properly profiled surface that’s ready for a permanent bond — not just “paint on top of old problems.”
Fusion Lock™: Chemical Weld in the Pores & on the Surface
Once the prep is complete, I apply Fusion Lock™ — my proprietary bonding system. Fusion Lock is hand-rubbed into the surface so the chemical weld happens inside the pores and on the surface level at the same time.
Instead of a thin layer hoping to stick, you get a chemical weld that ties into the tub and tile themselves. This is a completely different approach from “standard apartment-grade paint jobs” that rely on basic epoxy or acrylic urethane paints.
Hydroxyl Lock: Turning Extra Molecules into Real Muscle
The porcelain glaze I use already has excellent performance, but it doesn’t stop there. One of the additives in my system is called Hydroxyl Lock.
Hydroxyl molecules are basically what the resins bond to in professional grade surfaces. The problem in many coatings is that there are so many extra Hydroxyl molecules that they simply end up off-gassing or evaporating.
Hydroxyl Lock takes those extra Hydroxyl molecules and turns them into very real muscle — literally making the already impressive porcelain glaze about 20% to 30% stronger in both bonding and tensile strength.
I’ll be placing a tensile strength comparison chart below this section so you can see how this surface performs even before Hydroxyl Lock is mixed in — and then imagine that performance pushed another 20–30% higher.
Why Refinish the Bathtub & Tile Surround Together?
When you refinish only the tub or only the tile surround, there’s always a visible “line” where old meets new. By doing them together, you get:
- One continuous, uniform surface – tub, walls, and grout all match;
- Reinforced and sealed grout lines – no more raw grout to collect grime;
- Encapsulated moisture – Moisture Scavenger helps shut that down;
- Permanent porcelain glaze – not cheap paint or temporary coatings;
- Less demolition, less mess – keep your existing tub and tile in place.
This is perfect if you’re upgrading for yourself, getting a home ready to sell, or bringing a rental property back to life without ripping out the bathroom.
Meet Johnny – Owner Operated for 30+ Years
My name is Johnny, and I’m the one who will actually be in your home doing the work. I’ve been refinishing bathtubs and tile surrounds in the Dallas area for over 30 years, and I still treat every job like it’s my own home.
Because I’m owner operated, my prices end up being about the same as many refinishers who are using inferior products and basic acrylic urethane paints — but you’re getting a permanent porcelain glaze system with Fusion Lock™ and Hydroxyl Lock instead.
