Bathtub Refinishing Dallas County
What a Tough day I had last week! I had a bathtub refinishing project that had been painted with Epoxy by another company and was bubbled up, peeling, it was in bad shape. The customer was very distraught and honestly did not know what to do.
She had hired some painting done in her home and the painters said they could paint her bathtub for $150. She did not know any better and truthfully they probably did not know any better either. I think it was an honest mistake with a painter trying to bring in some extra money and they did not realize bathtub painting is not the same thing as bathtub refinishing.
The first picture is the Paint I peeled and stripped off the bathtub. The second picture being the refinished bathtub. Notice how yellow the epoxy paint was compared to the synthetic porcelain. This was only 4 weeks old. The epoxy will yellow will bleach is used to clean the bathtub. Synthetic porcelain will not. I thanked the homeowners for allowing me to not only refinish the bathtub correctly for them but for being truly interested in learning why the paint did not work. It was as simple as paint goes on top of the old surface, synthetic porcelain is chemically welded into the old surface through a synergistic approach. No one step alone will produce favorable results. However, together each step both prepares and builds strength for the following step in a synergistic approach.

The process is actually the same as it would be for porcelain bathtub refinishing. The bathroom tile will first need to be chemically cleaned to remove all soap residue. The bathtub or shower tile will then need to have a hand rubbed solution of a molecular bonding agent that is worked into the pores and microscopic scratches created during the etching process. After this the finish coat is synthetic porcelain which is applied the the bathtub or shower tile using a specialized sprayer called an h.v.l.p. sprayer. Unlike the ones used for car painting. The h.v.l.p. used for bathtub, tile, shower and vanity refinishing only produces about 2 pounds of heated air. The air is heated to ensure there is not any water vapor being accumulated from the room air and put into the actual spray. Bathtub Refinishing Dallas Bathtub Refinishing Dallas Tub Restoration I met a real nice older Gentleman today. The request he had for his 1950's era bathtub was, to be very honest the first time I heard it! He asked if I could do the bathtub in a low gloss look. The Bathtub had repairs it was rusted around the drain, it even had some pitting in the bottom of the tub. He wanted the tub to look good but did not want it to stand out as being new. So against all of my training I set out to give him a nice smooth surface with a low gloss as requested. I posted a couple of after pictures below. I really felt that if he would have allowed me to fully restore the bathtub it would have made the entire bathroom look better. However, The customer knew what he wanted and he was extremely happy. Low Gloss Bathtub as requested by the homeowner.
