Bathtub refinishing also called resurfacing is the process of restoring a bathtub, shower or tile back to a like new condition for a fraction of the cost of replacement.

First a chemical cleaner will be used to remove any residue that can effect your new finish. Etching is then accomplished using a spun fiber disk that rotates at over 2600 RPM's. This is a crucial step neglected by other refinishers. I then use the chemical cleaner again to make absolutely sure the surface is free of any oils and residue. Even oils from your hand will negatively effect the new surface. Next is a molecular bonding agent hand rubbed into the pores created through the etching process. This bonding agent is a 2 part silane developed by the aerospace industry for high altitude aircraft. It works by using the condensation that occurs through the use of hot water. The condensation acts as a catalyst causing a chemical weld between the original surface and the new surface. The finish coat is a polyester coating infused with polyester and silicone resin. This is an ultra hard coating designed for the bathtub, shower and tile refinishing industry. The life expectancy is 20 plus years.

Today was another bathtub that had been refinished with Aliphatic Acrylic Urethane. This was not only a guess but a fact . The resident said this bathtub had been refinished a few weeks ago by a professional it was used 3 times for showers. He admitted that he had called me when it first needed refinishing a few weeks ago but found someone that quoted him $150 less. He was told we all use the same product. The customer admitted he had a gut feeling that is was not going to be refinished correctly because he had read my website. If you look at the video below I was able to remove the coating with just one hand as I filmed and I found soap residue under the surface. Not only was the tub coating not bonded but the surface of the tub had not been properly cleaned.

I am a local Dallas bathtub refinishing professional after removing the old painted coating from the tub, which only took a few minutes longer than the video showed. I had to put the camera down to use both hands. As you can see in the video I am still wearing my jacket. It shocked me how easily it peeled up. Afterwards, I cleaned the tub surface and removed the soap residue, which I also show in the video. Then etched the surface with a spun fiber disk rotating at 2600 R.P.M.'s (this causes scratches and opens pores in the old surface giving it bite). I hand rubbed silane coupling agent into the pores of the old surface creating a chemical weld between the two surfaces. The last of the video shows a glossy white 100% polyester surface applied to the tub with a slip resistant resin on the tub floor.
