It was the first bathtub I have refinished in a long time that was actually correctly refinished the first time! Neither one of us was sure about what had happened around the bathtub drain area but at a past time it had been filled in with bondo. So over the years the bondo simply gave way and cracked the coating around the drain.
I was able to remove the bondo and then sand the area back and put a new surface on the entire bathtub making it look new again!

The surface also has to have a high quality silane which is a molecular bonding agent. This is the product I spoke of earlier when I said Dallas Bathtub Services has borrowed technology from the aerospace industry. Silane is a product that reacts with moisture ... or water. So the bonding agents will grab the coating and the coating is not paint. It is actually a polymer that closely resembles plastic in its dry form. This prevents the water from dissolving it. The Silane locks this polymer coating down not on top of the old surface, but into the old surface because of the etching process.
