Bathtub Refinishing Dallas Care Instructions
Even though your bathtub and shower can be used 24 hours after refinishing It is best to allow 7 full days before cleaning with anything other than water and a washcloth.
Never use Comet, S.O.S. or abrasive cleaners. Also do not use full strength bleach on a refinished surface. Bleach has a very high ph balance and can cause a temporary yellowing of the surface if applied in a concentrated formula. This will correct itself by simply using the bathtub or shower and flushing with fresh water. Chlorox 2 (for clothes) works great at reversing the chemical reaction caused by bleach on the fiberglass resin. Also Mixing a solution of baking soda and water then cleaning the surface will also get rid of the bleach stain. Another solution is to use 1000 grit sandpaper to remove any yellowing caused by full strength bleach. Simply turn the cold water on the tub and wet the sandpaper using it like a rag wipe away the yellow areas. This will only occur if the bleach is a strong undiluted brand like Clorox.

Dallas Bathtub Refinishing Process
Bathtub refinishing Dallas TX not only is for bathtub and tile refinishing but more importantly bathtub and tile restoration and is a permanent restoration.
What is bathtub restoration
Bathtub restoration is a synergistic approach to bathtub refinishing. During the old days of bathtub refinishing it really was nothing more than (let me clarify by saying [we] I don't mean myself, I mean myself included with the bathtub refinishing Industry) simply sanding a bathtub or using steel wool to try to scratch the surface to get a "bite" for the Epoxy paint in other words it was bathtub painting. Then we would use the marine grade Epoxy paint because we thought if it is good enough to be below the water line and deal with all of the pebbles and limbs and water currents that come into contact with a boat then it must be really good! Now keep in mind this all took place during the 1970's and 1980's before people started to question "is the smell of this stuff lasting 5 days really good to breathe in" or the equally important question of the life expectancy of the poor soul that works around these harsh chemicals daily!
This is why even to this day people will call me and to be honest It does not happen as much as it used to but about once every two months I will get the question "Do we need to vacate the home for 24 to 48 hours?" NO... those days are long gone! Unless you hire someone that still uses the old marine grade epoxy that has not been used in our Industry since early 1990's and mid 1990's at the very latest used for apartments!

Bathtub Refinishing Dallas Warns About Standard Epoxy
Epoxy was never meant for bathtub refinishing.. It was just used because it was the toughest paint available and in theory.... it should work. However, in reality it looked dull, it turned yellow when bathroom cleaners were used in the cleaning routine (mainly anything containing bleach). It was a cheap product that provided a quick, temporary fix especially for Apartments that wanted a cheap, temporary fix for the lease term.

2010 was a turning point for the Refinishing Industry
In 2010 the specialty coatings were being developed for the bathtub refinishing Industry. Cross linked coatings that were designed specifically for bathtub and tile surfaces. The key was not to just paint these on (which was tried and failed by some) the key was to understand the restoration procedure for bathtub and tile was a multistep one that was synergistic in the truest form. Each step was just as crucial as the final step and yet the final step was the only one most people were concerned with.
Let me explain,
Let me explain,
- The etching was no longer accomplished with harsh acids that put off toxic fumes instead a power tool with a spun fiber head was used that easily etched the hardest of porcelain surfaces.
- Chemical cleaners called deglossing agents are now used that are safe to touch and dissolve soap residue and oils.
- Molecular bonding agents were invented that are hand rubbed into the etched surface and then dry. However when the copolymer finish coat is applied they reactivate and wick the coating into the pores and microscopic scratches caused by the etching procedure. This allows the final coat to be integrated into the old surface using nano technology (which is the branch of technology that deals with dimensions and tolerances of less than 100 nanometers, especially the manipulation of individual atoms and molecules.) In other words a professional bathtub refinishing technician can chemically weld, or fuse, the new surface into the old surface giving the customer like new bathtub or tile surface!
- As exciting as this technology is there were other developments in the early 2000's that helped the bathtub refinishing Industry too! The development of Rust Converters these use copolymer ingredients to convert rusted metal back into a useful surface! Now once the rusted surface is converted back into a usable surface it too can be refinished so the cancerous like rust does not eat into the metal or cast iron and the restored bathtub is a gorgeous fixture that you can enjoy for many, many more years to come! In fact the copolymer coating is a 20+ year coating which means with a little TLC you just saved hundreds of dollars on replacement and you saved a restorable fixture from going to the landfill!
