Dallas Bathtub Refinishing Warranty Information
Here is an honest and transparent truth about bathtub refinishing warranties -- let me explain in detail.- Bathtub Refinishing Warranties are always limited. I remember when I was laughed at on an online refinishing forum. See I was taking care of things done 4 or 5 years ago at no charge. The reply that I received on the forum referenced the movie "Tommy Boy" the scene about the warranty on the brake pads and it was never use the "F" word... FREE. So, I simply asked my customers why they did not call the original refinishing company for these issues I was being called to repair. Most people would say "We don't remember who it was" or something along those lines but two people were very honest. One lady showed me the old receipt and said "they were denied warranty because I used bleach", then they quoted a price to redo the entire tub at $250 more. The other said it was a curtain rod that fell and they said they "wanted to charge for an entire refinishing again". So, I dug and found this warranty (I posted below). I am NOT going to mislead people and make the word warranty sound like they have 5 or 7 years of cost free maintenance when the exact opposite was happening. I am telling you facts that are true. It's embarrassing that these sales games are being played in this Industry. This is causing a breeding ground for inferior work that can be charged out on once it is "void" because of any little issue. Not with me! I have found most people appreciate honesty and learning about potential fees in advance.
- Please Keep in mind -- New manufacturers Like: American Standard and Kohler only provide a (1) year warranty on Factory New Bathtubs. (That must be returned to them for warranty work). Imagine tearing out all the tile to return a tub you paid a few hundred dollars for. The tub would be the least of your concerns in that situation. (The labor and damaged tile cost would be substantial)
------------------
NOW LET"S SEE THE COMPETITION -- -- JUST A COMPARISON
-------
Below is competitors 5 year warranty for bathtub refinishing.-- Just so you can see what other bathtub refinishing companies call a warranty....... it's very real -- Lets look at it together. Just look and see how many times you see the word "VOID"
------------------
Competition's Warranty Comparison : The Limited Warranty covers only the failure of adhesion. The following incidents or practices can damage or degrade a refinished surface and will void the warranty.
- A.) Chips, scratches, or other impact damage caused by sharp or falling objects, whether from accidental or intentional abuse. Damage that degrades or damages the surface will void the warranty.-- (WOW! This is not made up. I copied it from the PDF online. it says void.. so they want to redo everything because a chip occurred)
- B.) The use of chemicals, hair dyes, or products such as hydrogen peroxide that can stain or damage the finish will void the warranty.
- C. Surface remaining continuously wet from items in the bathtub (without drying out between uses), improper drainage, leaking/dripping plumbing or standing water for extended periods of time will void the warranty. (Use of any bathmats void the warranty)
- D. Any movement in the substructure of the surface which, in turn, causes movement in the refinished surface resulting in a crack or split in the refinished surface or grout lines will void the warranty.
- E. Damage from any activity or use which is not a normal or intended use of the fixture or surface as
recommended by the original manufacturer will void the warranty. - F.) Competition: Care and cleaning contrary to the Care and Cleaning Instructions will void the warranty.-- The instructions is for their cleaner they sell.
- Only recommended cleaner is their specialty cleaner you have to buy. I left the name out. Other cleaners will void the warranty. I looked it up though and it is roughly $25 / gallon. -- That is ridiculous, they must be using inferior acrylic paint.
- Do not use abrasive cleansers, harsh acids or cleaners that contain bleach, vinegar, or citrus cleaners. These materials can discolor or damage the surface causing premature wear. This will void the warranty. --
- Do not allow any cleaners or chemicals to remain on the surface for an extended period of time before thoroughly rinsing.
- Touched up areas may not match completely.
Let me say this is why I call these long warranties gimmicks. With this type of fine print how is that peace of mind? Let's be honest everything seems to void the warranty to me! This gets to me because the average customer hears "5 year warranty" and thinks it is covered. Only to find that it's the opposite and now... the warranty is voided. ....100% Gimmick!
-------
By the way.. This is a top dollar refinishing company, not a cheap service and NOT a small company. Other professionals have copied their warranty because they are the "leader" in bathtub refinishing. I now understand why I get so many tubs with small chips... They voided the warranty! This embarrasses me for our Industry. There is no reason for this. It can be fixed. People don't expect free work.
-----------------------------
Now, my warranty is very simple: Residential homes I have a 2 year adhesion warranty. (Rental Properties Homes, Air bnb, Room Rental all have a (1) Year Warranty with an $80.00 min. return fee - depending on damage). The surface is cross linked with polyester so it will not peel (see my Fusion Lock™ page). If you chip an area please understand, The chip needs to be repaired if not then you allow the water to get under the surface eating away at the chipped area which will eventually cause larger areas to become weakened and peel. This is Not a warranty issue and if this causes damage to a large area this will increase the fee. However, it will always be at a steeply discounted rate -- It does NOT void the warranty. -- only happens a few times a year, out of me working full time all year long. Most people are honest and say they dropped a curtain rod one man sat down with pliers in his back pocket. One guy re-tiled around the tub 2 years after refinishing and it only had 3 chips... I repaired it for $150 and put one coat around the tub so everything was uniform. -- Other bathtub refinishing businesses would have voided the warranty and started over like it was a new job. I know this to be a sad fact.
My Warranty Is A Very Valuable Thing. -- I Don't Look To Void It -- It Is Proof You Were a Past Customer And Saves You Money!
- Even if it's been 10 years -- call / text me- send pictures - You will get a discounted price! Because you are a past customer!
- You get discounts on other refinishing surfaces too! It will be priced right, Completed right and you will have a discount from me in the future. Even if it is years down the road.
- Better Technology with Integrated Surfaces.
- Please do not let traffic around the refinished area as it cures over 24 hours. Of course I will help with a highly discounted trip charge if an accident happens, but keeping traffic away from your new surface is ideal.
- Please keep your pets and children away from the tub during the first 30 hours. This can be a little more difficult and expensive to fix if a child has turned on the water or an animal gets in the tub.
- NOTE: Bath Salts will degrade most any surface or finish with prolonged contact which is why we discourage their use in a refinished tub. Bath salts are abrasive with undissolved crystals. They are also abrasive when diluted in water because of other trace minerals that attach to the tub surface. If you do choose to use them, your tub should be cleaned with a non-abrasive Dawn power wash solution and thoroughly rinsed after every use of bath salts of any kind. Even with proper cleaning, bath salts can degrade refinished surfaces with excessive or prolonged use and cause the new surface to wear faster. Bath salts are a sure way to degrade a refinished tub as well as a factory new tub.
- Please let me know at the very first sign of an issue! Do not wait until months go by and water works under the surface and causes a completely new surface to be applied, that is not a warranty issue. If the surface is so far gone a new surface has to be applied I will still offer a discounted price (from the current price list). Neglecting a surface will void the warranty.
- Other bathtub refinishing professionals warranties in this industry stress it covers "what they have control over" Then they offer a long warranty. As soon as it's needed they say "I didn't have control over the child dropping a toy" or.. whatever it is. That is wrong. I am saying yes, you will have to pay a fee but ... it's not going to be a new surface and it's not going to void the warranty.
- Do not use any type of bathmat on any refinished (including factory finished bathtub, tile or shower all sales final. I include a free slip resistant resin on the tub floor. Bathmats will suction down and force air under the surface with water creating a great vacuum! This can very easily lead to a new surface. I am being honest on what I have seen over 30 + years.
- Exclusive use of porcelain glaze chemically bonded into, not painted on top of old surface chemically welded with Fusion Lock coupling agents means you have a bathtub that will not peel or fade under normal use. Additionally, something has to really hit he tub hard ... or possibly just at the right angle to chip it. Please remember, it is chip resistant, not chip proof. Just as the original Factory tub is.
- Please, please, please understand I can not do FREE maintenance of the surface- A warranty does not cover chips, scratches, pillow attachments, bath caddy attachments, any type of attachment that lays against the tub surface, acts of God, Foundation movement -- this will eventually damage the surface. Foundation movement, mildewed or damaged caulking or anything outside my control --- The surface is applied using the correct application and the correct bonding agents. The surface is applied in a continuous motion and is cross linked. This means your surface will only chip if heavy enough items are dropped. I also use silane coupling agent molecular bonding agents 100% preventing mildew and algae growth and bonding the new surface to the old to prevent peeling.
- It is important for you to know other bathtub refinishing companies require a non refundable deposit, I do not do that for most restoration jobs. However, once I work extremely hard on your project You owe the bill. Of course any issues will be fixed if your not happy. Threatening, yelling cussing at me will not be tolerated. It has never happened in my 30+ year career but that is the way to void a warranty I will not go to a hostile environment. I have never had an issue with this in my 30 + year career but have heard many of such stories. It simply is not worth it and I am being upfront and completely transparent. I am a small business, and just like you go to work to make a living so do I. As always since my warranty was first started for residential work back in 2003 all sales are final.I have the final say on all warranty claims.

Warranty --- Unchanged since 2003!
- 2 year residential
- 1 year commercial such as (air BnB, rental homes)
- Dallas Bathtub Refinishing Warranty: (2) year transferable Limited Warranty (Residential - 1 year Rental). All warranty work requires a minimum $80 min. return trip charge depending on the severity of the issue. Please inform me as soon as you notice an issue.
- To cover workmanship issues that I have control over - this means the correct surface is applied the correct way so algae and mildew do not ever grow on or under the surface this is what a warranty was originally limited to. Please do not think me, or any bathtub refinishing professional I know of can provide years of care, free of charge.
- Other Refinishing businesses: I have heard of them charging $75/ hour plus $75 trip charge, or usually having to strip and refinish a badly damaged tub at a more than the original price. Once you look at the truth you understand these businesses are paying sub contractors, not employees. The turn over rate of sub contractors is shocking. I am owner / operated. My experience is over 30 years on refinishing.
- Many people become confused about warranties in the refinishing Industry. The difference is I am not going to lead you to believe it is something it is not. We do not get free coatings and supplies and everyone knows the price of gas and toll charges.
- does not cover: chips from dropped items, bathmat usage, scratches, foundation movement or anything outside my control --- The surface is applied using the correct application and the correct bonding agents. The surface is applied in a continuous motion that cross links the surface so the surface will not chip or peel unless something heavy is dropped or simply hits at the right angle. Does not cover damage from outside influences or damage caused by foundation or movement from improper installation, poor drainage issues, constant water leaks that damage the surface (Constant drips will erode even factory finishes) improper cleaners, or anything else that is out of my control such as dropped items. I also use silane coupling agent molecular bonding agents 100% preventing mildew and algae growth and bonding the new surface to the old. Applied at the correct mil thickness. (over 7 mils) I over shoot and apply at 8 - 10 mills, which is 12 coats. I have never had algae or mildew grow in my 30+ years in business. All Sales Are Final. If you want absolute perfection. I recommend purchasing new. I have final say in all warranty claims and under no circumstance will ever refund money after spending the hours of working on your project, with cost that creep up quick.
- However, if you have an issue with the new surface of your tub During the next (2) year Residential. (1) year commercial (Rental, air BnB, anything other than your home that you personally live at full time) you get a heavily discounted price! (reg. trip charge $280) your discounted trip charge usually $80.00 (depending on driving time, tolls, and damage). Please let me know before a chip or damage causes more damage.
- Please let me know at the very first sign of an issue! Do not wait until months go by and water works under the surface and causes a completely new surface to be applied. PLEASE Do not use any type of bathmat on any refinished surface. Not recommended for factory finished bathtub, tile or shower either, I have refinished many Factory new tubs less than 1 year old with damage from bathmats. I always include a free slip resistant resin on the tub floor. (not the cheap granules that feel like sand paper)
- Exclusive use of 100% Polyester Porcelain coating chemically bonded with silane means you have to really hit he tub hard to chip it... or possibly just at the right angle to unfortunately chip it. Please remember, it is chip resistant, not chip proof just as porcelain is.
- My basic message is please understand I can not do maintenance of the surface free of charge.
- If a child is being bathed and toys are played with I highly recommend soft toys. This prevents hard plastic toys from accidentally being rammed into the sides of tubs are scratched along the water line. (has only happened 1 time in the past. Metal boat propeller hit several areas around the water line.)
- I have found an old towel works great on the tub floor when bathing my 70 pound Labrador. This prevent his nails from possibly damaging the tub floor.
- After the surface is applied there is no way for me to know how often it is cleaned, used or what type of cleaner is used.
Please note: if the surface is heavily damaged after the original refinishing the cost may exceed the original price.
- I recommend doing all plumbing and tile and Flooring work before you have the bathtub refinished.
- Let me be the last one in this way if an accident happens it can be fixed at n/c when I refinish the surface.
- Please Do not use bath mats. They trap soap residue and create a constant vacuum that can and usually will cause issues with the coating these will damage the new surface. I have repaired new bathtubs that were a year old with rust spots caused by these bath mats.
- Recommended cleaner is Dawn Power Wash for dishes, or make a mixture of dawn anti bacterial dish soap 2-3 ounces per quart of water. (Stronger mixing is o.k. but not necessary) mixed with 3 ounces rubbing alcohol and the rest water. Dawn Power Wash is sold in the dish soap aisle.
- There are so many cleaners on the market that It's impossible to know them all. citrus cleaners and grit cleaners like comet and soft scrub will dull and possibly damage the surface.
- Please do not clean with magic eraser type cleaners. These are VERY abrasive. (a quick google search will explain)
- In no event with respect to claims will damages exceed the price of the service. Issues must be brought to my attention as soon as they happen to prevent additional charges. neglect of a surface will void your warranty. Agreement to this warranty is made upon completion of the refinishing job with all sales final. Dallas Bathtub Refinishing Services
- Dallas Bathtub Services and all individuals associated with this business are not responsible for any accidents including those occurring due to slip and falls. Slip resistant floors are ... resistant and can not be 100% guaranteed to prevent falls. All warranty work will be provided by me and I have the final approval on warranty claims. Completion of work constitutes agreement of warranty claims and charges.
- Sinks and vanity refinishing are not warrantied. This is due to the nature of use with hard objects placed on them. In saying that also please know I have Never had an issue.
- Any surface that is refinished at no charge or reduced fees will not have a warranty.
- This warranty and discounted trip charge is transferable.
- Rental Properties. Home investment Properties and Air B&B's (also anything before 4-20-2025). Have a (1) Year Limited Warranty.
- Last year I had 3 to 4 issues. Always has been either improper cleaning (some type of soft scrub, some type of citrus cleaner) or bath mat / suction cup usage, and dropped shower head or curtain rod. I am being as honest, transparent and upfront as I can possibly be. I use Polyester coatings (superior in every way to standard epoxy, acrylic paint and polyurethane). Bonded with Fusion Lock. I want you to get the longest benefit possible from your new surface! Please clean with Dawn power wash or Dawn dish soap a few ounces in a quart spray bottle of water with 3 ounces or more of rubbing alcohol. This dawn cleaning solution is a great cleaner for refinished items as well as brand new factory coated appliances. Remember, harsh cleaners are usually what caused the new surface to become worn, scratched or discolored, and in need of refinishing. The worst offenders for destroying new surfaces I have found are:
- barkeepers friend
- scrub pads (green scrub pads and magic eraser cleaners dull and abrade the surface)
- comet
- soft scrub
- citrus cleaners - They contain an acid from skins on oranges, lemons, or limes called d-limonene this is a harsh acid that removes part of the surface allowing it to "clean". Basically these are etching away at the surface, even brand new, factory surfaces.
- cleaners with vinegar or BLEACH. These chemically burn the surface turning it a yellow or yellowish brown. They eat away at the glaze over time. Even on brand new factory finishes. They will destroy a refinished surface.
- I will always work with past customers at a discounted price. So even if your surface is severely damaged years down the road, I will always give you a discounted price. The comforting thing about refinishing is it can always be fixed and always be refinished again.
- I want you to love your new surface and fully expect you to many, many years use from it. Porcelain Glaze is rated for a 20 year life span. Bathtub restoration is actually considered light use for this very tough surface. My goal is for your new surface to stay glossy and in great condition for that 20 + year time frame! - Bathtub refinishing also called reglazing or resurfacing is the process of bonding a new surface to the old surface. This should be accomplished by using mechanical and chemical bonding procedures. I want to be transparent with every one and I have put more information about bathtub and tile refinishing on this website, for those interested in knowing a little more about the refinishing process, how it works and what the limitations are.
