Why does Bathtub Refinishing Cost about the same as a New Bathtub
Q.) Why does bathtub refinishing cost about the same as a new bathtub?
A.) The expense involved with a bathtub replacement is actually far greater than the price of a bathtub. I don't get this question as much as I use to but it worth noting because it is a fair question. When a bathtub is replaced the first 2 - 3 rows of tile around the tub have to be removed. This is caused by a 'lip' on the edge of the bathtub that actually fits up under the tile. Another problem often encountered is the removal of the bathtub. It may have to be cut into pieces to get through a door or down a hallway. Which means the door may have to be widened to get a new bathtub back in. This can easily make a bathtub replacement anywhere from $6,000.00 or more depending on the work that would need to be done.

How long Will Bathtub Refinishing Last
Usually when this question is asked it is because of the concern of peeling. Please understand to properly refinish a bathtub or bathtub and tile combo the surface must:
- be etched (this creates microscopic scratches and opens pores in the old surface by removing the hard glass like glaze)
- it will then need a high quality molecular bonding agent called silane applied to chemically weld the new surface into the pores of the old surface created through etching.
- The final step is a multi resin polymer that mimics the look and feel of porcelain.
- Silane used by Dallas bathtub refinishing is what Dentist use when bonding repairs to porcelain teeth! It is also what is used before painting high altitude spacecraft. The catalyst for silane is moisture so as condensation forms between the old and new surface the silane will gel and lock the surfaces together with a permanent bond.
- When surfaces are simply painted with epoxy or urethane paint they bubble and peel because the condensation forms between the old and new surface. This will usually happen in a few hours of use and definitely within 30 days of painting the bathtub.
- Dallas bathtub refinishing uses a procedure that etches into the old surface and chemically welds the new surface into the old. It always comes with an adhesion warranty to cover that issue! I fully expect my surfaces to last 20 years before needing refinished again. Dallas Bathtub Refinishing provides a 2 year limited warranty.!

Can Bath Mats be Used on Refinished surfaces
Bath mats with suction cups are not recommended even on a new tub! One of the main reasons I see bathtubs being refinished is because the suction cup mat has trapped water under it and caused pitting and rust. Non suction cup mats are sold for this reason however, I do not recommend them. Also I have a slip resistant resin that can be added to the tub or shower floor. Please never use any bathmat of any kind on any refinished surface.
Once upon a time, in a cozy little bathroom, there lived a beautiful bathtub. It was the star of the room, its gleaming porcelain surface always inviting a relaxing soak. But little did the bathtub know, a new enemy was lurking in the shadows - a seemingly harmless bathmat. At first, the bathtub welcomed its new companion, unaware of the destruction it would bring. As days turned into weeks, the bathmat's constant presence began to wear down the bathtub's surface, leaving behind unsightly scratches and marks. The once pristine bathtub was now a shadow of its former self, all because of a simple bathmat. Beware, my dear friends, for even the most innocent looking objects can cause the most unexpected destruction.
