Cultured Marble Refinishing Dallas TX
Cultured marble is a surface made from crushed limestone and fiberglass resin and is a different process of refinishing than porcelain. ceramic, acrylic and fiberglass. Cultured marble is a combination of Limestone and Fiberglass resin It is then encapsulated by a gel coat which gives it that sheen.
- When refinishing cultured marble the gel coat is removed which causes miniature pin holes throughout the surface. This is by no means a bad thing! It means yes it can be refinished and no it does not have to be refinished in the multifleck, It can be refinished in solid colors
- In past years professional cultured marble bathtub refinishing businesses were limited to only refinishing cultured marble in multi fleck coatings. Although it was still not an ultra smooth surface it hid the surface imperfections (pinholes and surface cracks) in the cultured marble.
- Now with fiberglass resin we can offer solid colors and give the home owner a one color solution. The refinishing process works on cultured marble garden tubs, jetted tubs, bathtubs, vanities, and other cultured marble surfaces such as the shelving often found around cultured marble tubs.

Cultured Marble Refinishing Information
When refinishing in solid colors cultured marble will need a fiberglass resin additive so it works into the old fiberglass / limestone surface. This means getting the same ultra smooth appearance as porcelain is not going to be possible. However, You can still expect an easy to clean, glossy and durable surface once it fully bonds in about 3 days. Don't worry! It can still be used the following day the fiberglass resin will be bonding to the old surface under the finish coat.
The Cultured Marble Look
Refinished Cultured marble will not have the same high gloss porcelain look as the other surfaces such as porcelain, acrylic, tile and fiberglass enclosures. Especially countertop areas like vanities. These surfaces have to be as abrasion resistant as possible. The surface will have a textured appearance but will clean up great and last for years! It is not uncommon to find dozens of hairline surface cracks in a cultured marble surface during the refinishing process. This is due to the temperature of the water verses the surface temperature of the cultured marble and the soft limestone / fiberglass mold, also unique to the cultured marble surface and why the fiberglass resin is so important! After refinishing it will not get surface cracks again! Cultured marble refinishing is a very cost effective way to change the look of your cultured marble surface with out the expense of tearing out the old surface! It is also important to note refinishing cultured marble will make it a solid color (white is the most popular and is so reflective it blends well with any other color!)
