Dallas Bathtub Refinishing Services about me page Dallas bathtub refinishing services was founded in 1991 (my senior year of high school). I then took the business full time in 1992. I speak passionately about the issues with painting bathtubs and tile because our industry has a black cloud looming over it because of the Epoxy paint and Acrylic Urethane painting that has really taken off in the Apartment and hotel commercial side. This is not what a home owner wants for their personal tub. It is very hard to look at a finished product that looks really good and think something negative about that product. However, this is exactly what has happened In the refinishing Industry when surfaces were painted only to peel within weeks. Dallas Bathtub Services beginning When I first started Dallas Bathtub Refinishing Services in 1992 I did nothing but commercial work (Apartments and Hotels) epoxy was the go to paint and I think most all of us back then just simply painted bathtubs. I can tell you I for one hated it! It would look so good until a few hours later when it dried. Then it would look dull and had a painted look. I would go back and wet sand and buff some of them out but it could not be done to most and even with that they just never looked great. Then there was the problem of heavy yellowing when bleach was used. Not a "maybe this is yellowish"... but a nasty brown / yellow color that was so discouraging to see! Then 6 months later it was time to strip that old off and go thru the process again. The apartments had a 6 month lease agreement so they wanted it done as cheap as possible and then redone in 6 months sure some would last longer but some never made it past 2 or 3 moths either. It was an endless cycle. Those epoxy paint kits you see at home improvement stores are that same 1990's technology. In fact the ones I have seen lately are a one part can that I can't figure out for the life of me how that mess is being sold as epoxy. I mean when I used epoxy one thing was for sure you mixed equal parts A and B then you had to work fast so it did not set up too fast. It sure did not stay tacky for (3) days like these cans I see now.... that sounds more like an oil based paint! Imagine the loose dust alone settling over a 3 day period!! Dallas Bathtub Refinishing involves Rocket Science? Bathtub and tile refinishing technology has made leaps and bounds since the 1990's. We all know this to be true and the dedicated scientist that developed today's coatings made it possible to now provide a permanent solution instead of a quick painted fix! The synergistic process involves a molecular bonding agent called Silane. Silane was developed by the Aerospace Industry for high altitude aircraft and space equipment. Imagine the condensation that forms when the air goes from warm to super cold and then to super hot! Its the same condensation that forms when your bathtub is subjected to water temperatures. Silane was the perfect answer! Dentist also use silane when bonding to porcelain teeth. Getting rid of epoxy was another perfect solution. Yet here we are in 2018 still trying to tell consumers about the inferior use of standard Epoxy paint. It's not the consumers fault. They are hammered with seeing the D.I.Y. shows on T.V. and the Internet. They see the kits at home improvement selling this glorified paint for $40 to $80 a can. I even saw an article that stated it cost the professional bathtub refinishing technician about $50.00 in supplies to refinish a bathtub. I guess they took the average price of the kit and just figured that was the cost! Well, the difference between bathtub refinishing accomplished by Dallas bathtub refinishing and bathtub painting can be simply broken down as:
