What Do You Call Restoring A Bathtub

Bathtub painting is sometimes what people mistakenly call bathtub refinishing. However, if you are talking about the epoxy d.i.y. paint kits then it really gets confusing because they call themselves bathtub refinishing kits but are simply epoxy paint. (LOL) I am literally laughing out loud trying to explain this because I feel like I'm doing the old Abbott and Costello skit of Who's on first!

Yeah It's like that! Especially, when we throw in the terms of refinishing, reglazing, resurfacing then as I'm researching key terms for my website I find ones that I'm honestly not sure if they are legitimate words! Like reporcelain, What? What's on second! Okay so I also find repurpose which throws me for a loop because I thought when you repurpose something it would change what it was meant for. Example, If you own land, cattle and horses and use an old clawfoot bathtub for a water trough then you repurpose that tub. Who? No, who's on first!
Okay so then we have refurbish which does make sense I completely understand that one. Bathtub refacing okay I absolutely get that! In fact, That is exactly what it's all about!

Why So Many Terms For Bathtub Refinishing

Bathtub Painting - This would be because in the past even when I started in the refinishing business in 1992 we only had one choice to redo (another term!) a bathtub or tile and that was epoxy paint. It looked dull, the customer could not use bleach on it because it would yellow and it lasted about 6 months to a year depending on how often it was used. This was great for Apartments because a lease term was usually 6 mos. to a year and then they would turn the unit for the next customer.
Bathtub reglazing - because people did not know what to call it they would simply say my bathtub is not shiny, it is missing the glaze. (Which was the result of using comet or any abrasive cleaner and scratching up the surface.)
Bathtub Resurfacing, Bathtub Refinishing - These were brought about and made popular around 1999 because the bathtub refinishing Industry had made changes. There was a coating called synthetic porcelain made especially for bathtub and tile refinishing. So professional refinishers were trying to teach consumers that we no longer simply painted bathtubs with epoxy. This was complicated by the fact that some professionals refused to change coatings and still used epoxy and the d.i.y. kits started calling the kits tub and tile refinishing.
