It was the first bathtub I have refinished in a long time that was actually correctly refinished the first time! So the bonding agents will grab the coating and the coating is not paint. It is actually a polymer that closely resembles plastic in its dry form. This prevents the water from dissolving it. The Silane locks this polymer coating down not on top of the old surface, but into the old surface because of the etching process.
